How the neck pain can be avoided ?
Prevention is always far better than cure. To avoid the occurrence of neck pain, you should fix your posture first, Adjust the height of your chair with respect to your desk and the desktop screen or laptop should be placed at your eye level. Take frequent rest breaks in between continuous work. Avoid tucking mobile phone between the shoulder & the ear.
Avoid carrying heavy bag on one shoulder. The load should be equally distributed. Try to use pillow as prescribed as per your requirement and perform simple neck exercises at your work place to prevent stiffness.
What you should do to prevent neck pain –
- Do Maintain Good posture – The head shouldn’t be leaning forward and should be in a straight line symmetry with your spine.
- Do fix alarm every 40-45 minutes to check yourself and rectify your posture. Specially, when you are a sedentary worker or performing a desk job. Your shoulders & back should be kept relaxed.
- Do fix your feet flat on the floor.
- Do control your stress levels as increased stress can increase your perception of pain and promotes poor posture and tension in muscles mainly in Upper trapezius, head and shoulders. Tightness of these muscles pulls the head forward and promotes the development of forward head posture.
- Don’t put unnecessary strain on your neck muscles. Avoid holding phone between your head and shoulder.
- Don’t keep the head in bent position for more than 10 minutes in one go.
- Don’t roll your cervical spine for so long. This grinds the cervical bones which promotes arthritic changes.
