Common Treatment Protocol
R-I-C-E (Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation).
- Rest - Decrease the athletes activities & rest injured area.
- Ice - Cryotherapy for 20 minutes over the site of injury, 4-8 times per day. (Cold pack, ice bag or crushed ice can be used)
- Compression – To reduce swelling
- Elevation – Above the heart level
- Immobilization can be necessary with sling, cast, splint or leg immobilizer.
